When fixing Keope Porcelain Tiles to walls and floors there is a general fixing method
for
most applications. However we are delighted to offer a written specification at your
request if you can provide us with your type of application and the substrate that is
being tiled.
Contrary to believe fixing onto a timber floor is very easy to do and is used in most
installations in todays environment. The most important thing to remember is the
movement in the floor. It is therefore recommended that when fixing onto most
timber
floor you are much better putting down 15mm marine plywood on top of your timber
floor
then screwed at 150cm centers .This can be done using a ring nail gun which saves a
lot of
time.
There is always a great debate amongst tile fixers which thickness of plywood to
use
some fixers because of height restrictions using as little as 4mm ply. However it is
our
experience that in most cases tillers will use 9mm or 12mm ply which in most cases
especially domestically is acceptable. However the British Standard and all adhesive
manufacturers prefer you to tile onto 15mm ply.
When fixing onto plywood or concrete we recommend bonding with a Universal Bonding
Agent we recommend Dunlop Bonding Agent and 5 Litres will cover 35 Square Metres
when Diluted one part bonding agent to 5 parts water. This is very easy to do and can be
applied very quickly with a conventional paint brush and tiled over within an hour
When fixing onto plywood or concrete we recommend using a single part flexible adhesive
rapid set and we recommend Dunlop Fast Set Plus which covers roughly 4 square metres
per 20 Kilogram Bag
When tiling onto concrete it is important the concrete gas been allowed to dry out
properly usually 4-6 weeks after the floor has been poured.
Another big debate is movement joints and if any where to put them. It is recommended
on large floors to have movement joints every 6-8 Linear Metres and round any fixed
object on the floor ie pillars and the like and follow movement joints in the sub floor but
this is generally for larger contracts. However it is our experience especially in new
homes that using silicone instead of grout on the perimeter of the floor ( where the tile
meets the skirting ) will give a longer and better looking joint over time.
When grouting porcelain tiles we recommend Dunlop Single Part Flexible Grout which
comes in 10 Kilogram bags and covers roughly 12 square metres per bag. This is used for
grouting onto timber and concrete floors.
When fixing Keope Porcelain Tiles onto walls we recommend Dunlop Floor and Wall
Adhesive mixed with Dunlop Flexible Additive this gives the tile fixer the open time and
flexibility needed to carry out such an installation.
As a general rule Grey Grout is used on the floor and White grout on the walls although
there is a range of coloured grouts available for both
